“Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.” – Walt Disney
To say that Walt Disney was ahead of his time is a major understatement. While he was referring to traditional print photography, the popularization of increasingly sophisticated digital technology and social media applications is proof positive that Disney’s quote remains very relevant today.
In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase in the ways we can capture, tweak and share photos of the people, places and things that are important, funny and meaningful to us. In short – though the technology has changed, the importance of images remains the same!
If you want to use social media to drive traffic to your website, gain attention, grow your audience or activate a network, images are as important (if not a little more so) than your headline and writing. An effective pic increases the likelihood that people will read and share your content by 47% (www.GetCurata.com).
To illustrate how impactful the use of images can be on social media, look no further than photo-driven efforts, such as the NOH8 campaign and the grassroots movement supporting marriage equality. Both campaigns rose to prominence by creating photos and image templates that users could easily personalize. Proponents of both campaigns were encouraged to share their images on social media as a public illustration of support.
It’s with a growing enthusiasm for cool digital images that I’m very happy to announce the very first TROUP Photo Contest – Show Your EQUALITY. Anyone who knows me understands my belief that a commitment to equality should be the lynchpin of corporate philosophies, charitable missions and personal principles.
So now I’m giving you a chance to Show Your EQUALITY in a fun (and competitive) photo contest – and a chance to win a FREE iPHONE 5 courtesy of AT&T.
I’m looking for pics and images that incorporate the word equality – not an equal sign or some other representation of equality, but the actual word equality. You must incorporate the entire word in your image.
To enter the contest, each participant will post his or her on the TROUP page. I’ll add all the entries to a Photo Album on Facebook where people will be able to vote for their favorites. Keep it clean because I reserve the right to remove any objectionable pics.
All entrants in the contest must be Fans of the TROUP page. So if you want to Show Your Equality and you’re not a Fan yet, just click “Like” on the page and you’re all set.
The contest will remain open through Monday, September 9. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, September 10.
Winners will be crowned in 2 categories –
The TROUP Award will be given to my favorite, the pic I find most creative and meaningful. The TROUP Award winner will receive a complimentary business, career or marketing consultation with me!
I can’t wait to see what you come up with! TROUP there it is!!
